Event: O.J. Simpson found liable for the murder of Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson

Where: Brentwood, Los Angles California

Significance: The O.J. Simpson case became a very big deal in the United States because many people believed it had something to do with racial inequality.  Although to this day the facts behind the case are shoddy and mysterious, it doesn’t change the past and the trouble it would bring.  O.J. Simpson was an NFL running back nicknamed “Juice” because he was the first ever to rush for 2,000 yards in a 14 game season.  However, in 1997, he became infamous for being a suspect in the murder of his wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.  Four years earlier, Simpson had been declared a fugitive of the law and tried to make a run for it in his friend’s white Bronco.  Supporters gathered on overpasses waving signs encouraging him to keep fighting as the low-speed chase ensued.

He was taken to court in 1997; however, due to lack of decent evidence, Simpson was found not guilty.  This led to civil unrest between those who believed he should’ve been convicted and those who didn’t.  O.J. was off the hook until 2008 when he was convicted with armed robbery and kidnapping.  He was sentenced to 33 years in prison.  He was released in the year 2017 and is, to this day, on parole.  “I’ve done my time,” Simpson said during an interview after his release in 2017, “I’ve done it as well and respectfully as I think anyone can.”  Simpson is now keeping a low profile in order to avoid mass attention which could lead to a parole violation.  When at the store, one might see grape juice and apple juice… but now, it’s quite possible someone might just find O.J. there too.
