The 2024 Brownsburg Homecoming Dance will be held in the cafeteria at BHS on September 28, 2024. It starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. but breathalyzing will start as early as 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 and will be sold at the DECA store starting September 20, 2024, until Friday, September 27, 2024. Students cannot purchase tickets online. Students can also purchase tickets directly from Mrs. Tara Sabelhaus during the 2nd, 3rd or 4th period.
This year’s theme is Blockbuster Bash. The members of CHAIN Link wanted to be inclusive and consider elementary students and middle schoolers but also make the theme exciting for high schoolers at BHS.
“We came up with a cinematic theme, something that both the middle schools and the elementaries could do, and we could still also have fun with something that offered versatility,” said junior David Denoyer, a member of CHAIN Link. “We thought Blockbuster Bash would be the best thing.”
The royal nominees have also been announced! On the senior queen’s court are Sophia Dawson, Maddison Day, Leyssa Nabe and Izzy Neal. On the senior king’s court are Jeremy (Viael) Berry, Jake Hockaday, Joey Spagnuolo and Casper Sumner. The junior royal nominees are Elijah (Eli) Balbach, Anna Blahnik and Maddie Dalton. The sophomore nominees are Jillian (JJ) Broadstreet, Oscar Frye and Branden Sharpe. Finally, the freshman nominees this year are Crew Brown, Ansley Faires and Nayima Hall.
Homecoming will be a little different than years past. This year CHAIN link has a new sophomore class sponsor, Mrs. Taylor Seager. She is the teacher in charge of homecoming this year. The biggest change is how the students vote for homecoming queen and king. There are QR codes around the school to vote. It is more in the hands of students this year because they wanted to include students more than years past. The students vote for who they want, and the administration will approve the students that should be running for HOCO court.
“In years past, there’s been a teacher vote,” said Seager. “This year, there is this element that we still want kids that are academic, and who do the right things. But we also want the students to have more of a voice. We’re trying to find a better balance between students that are really representing the school well, in all factors, not just one factor.”
Voting ends Wednesday, September 24, 2024 at the end of the school day.
In the past few years CHAIN Link has painted dog houses as a fundraiser for local animal shelters. This year, they are still painting the dog houses as it is a Brownsburg tradition, but dog houses are a fundraiser for the Brownsburg Educational Foundation. The dog houses get painted by the CHAIN Link members based on the theme of the dance. The dog houses get taken on the floats during the homecoming parade. There will also be a QR code that will be on the floats for anyone that wants to vote for their favorite doghouse at the parade.
