The Brownsburg Boys Cross Country team wrapped up the regular season at the conference meet this past Saturday, Sept. 23, where they placed fifth just being edged out by Hamilton Southeastern by one point.

The dogs were led by junior Ian Baker who placed third and ran a 15:17 which put him three seconds short of the school record. Coach John Latta said that the reason for this success is because “he never complains about the work” and when he is doing that work, he takes it very seriously and “fights harder than anyone during races.”

The dogs JV team placed second in the conference championship led by senior Paul Cormany and sophomore Hunter Sardinas. This was the first time that the JV team was beat out by any team. The JV being this successful, Latta said, is important because it is “the most important piece when looking into the future.”

The next race the dogs are participating in is the Varsity regular season finale, the Nike Twilight, which will host teams from all around the Midwest and will be very important to pick up momentum going into postseason. Latta said this will “possibly be more competition than the state meet” as many of the top teams around the country will be going to it.

Latta said the team’s success has come despite them not being the most talented group of kids coming into this program. However, he believes they have made up for it in how they “know the value of hard work” and that is what is taking them so far.
