What is March Madness? March Madness is a basketball tournament that the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) hosts for Division I men’s and women’s basketball every year in the month of March into the beginning of April.
There are 68 teams in the competition to make it to the championship. It is a spot that is earned based on how the team’s basketball season went. To get to the championship, they have different rounds: the first round, the second round, the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight, the Final Four and the championship.
Each year, my family and I create a March Madness bracket for the men’s tournament where we make predictions on who we think will win the tournament. We printed the brackets and filled them out. Then on the NCAA website, we created a family group to compete against each other on who will have the best bracket. This year, I had the best bracket, meaning my bracket was the most accurate to who won in real life. I had Auburn University and Duke University playing each other in the championship, my mom had Purdue University and my brother and his girlfriend also had Auburn University winning it all.
March Madness isn’t just a tournament for the players, but it is also a competition that millions of people enter each year. Some decide to bet on who is going to win, and commonly, people create brackets.
March Madness can be tense and competitive. That is what makes it “mad”. People go crazy because they want to win and have the most accurate bracket.

I come from a family that is obsessed with basketball and sports, and even some of my family members played in March Madness when they were in college. I am one of the few members that doesn’t play basketball, and I won.
March Madness is loved by many. The excitement of the tournament plays a big role about how “Mad” it is.
