Rebooting in 3..2..

Rebooting+in+3..2..

Whether you grew up watching shows from the 80’s, 90’s or as most of us did, the 2000’s, you probably remember that one show you always tuned in for. Those shows hold a special place in people’s hearts, and while some want to remember them as they were, it’s apparent that many want to ‘refresh.’ This plan of rebooting and creating spin offs to shows has been around as long as tv has, but the idea has started gaining a lot more traction, especially now in the 2020’s. So there’s a good chance your favorite show could be getting a glow up. Or is it a glow down?

Now there are plenty of shows that have clearly worked out. A prime example of this being Power Rangers. The franchise has racked up a total of 21 different versions with countless seasons aired throughout the years, so clearly the creators had something good going for them there. And yet when it comes to beloved shows like Scooby Doo, Teen Titans and even The Magic School Bus, many fans are upset by the latest reboots.

When asked about how she feels regarding these latest reboots, senior Sara Wood had quite a bit to day. “I’m kind of boycotting the iCarly reboot. Because in my opinion, what makes a successful reboot is having that sense of nostalgia to remind you why you loved it in the first place.”

The seemingly biggest issues with the industry cranking out all of these reboots is, at some point, it’s all the same. Wood shared, “It feels like Hollywood uses reboots because they have nothing better to do. Like do you know how many times we’ve seen a Cinderella story redone?” And she’s right in that. At what point will reboots have reboots, and so on?

So why does Hollywood keep remaking things? According to imd.org, “Sequels, reboots and remakes in the film industry represent Hollywood’s move towards imitative design over innovative design. This is because these films illustrate the natural relationship between both product development and marketing.”

As mentioned before, there have been several reboots and spin offs that have done pretty well, even becoming just as beloved, if not more than, the original. And some movies or shows have arguably had better reboots. At the end of the day it’s all up to interpretation. So without further ado, here are some recent or upcoming reboots and spinoffs!
