The future is something that’s scary for many people. Schools can put pressure on finding your path as early as middle school. Being a sophomore in high school, I can attest to not knowing what I want to do in the future.
If you don’t know what profession you want to do when you’re older, you are not alone.
“Most high school graduates (75 percent) do not feel prepared to make college or career decisions after graduation,” according to a survey from YouScience, a college and career readiness company.
With that said, there are countless websites to help get an idea of some of the careers that are out there.
Consider looking at all the jobs there are out there without focusing on the pay rate. Many high school students have taken a course to find a career, but it can be helpful to retake it to refresh the results. Some places these tests are on is The Princeton Review and BigFuture. Both have quick tests that can show you some options of jobs according to your personality and interests.
Though these websites can be helpful, something more personal like family can be just as helpful.
Friends and family are often here to help support you with these choices. Think about asking your family to sit down and help you go through some job options. You can also ask a friend to help as well so you can both help each other with the future.
Even with family and tests to help, it’s still okay to not have it fully planned out yet.
There are so many professions you can chose in life, and for now, it’s important that money isn’t the center point for a career you want. There is plenty of time to figure out what you want to do in life and just know that life is about experiencing and enjoying every aspect. It’s okay if things don’t all go according to plan.
