This year’s Met Gala boasted many well-known celebrities, including multiple actors, singers and performers. With the theme for this year being “The Garden of Time,” a lot of the outfits explored floral motifs and styles giving off a nature-like vibe. Zendaya, Elle Fanning, Gigi Hadid and Ariana Grande wore some of the more popular outfits.
Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, also invited numerous first timers to the Met Gala this year, including the K-pop group Stray Kids, South African singer Tyla and actress Ayo Edebiri. Stray Kids made history as guests, as they are the first whole K-pop group to attend the Met Gala. Tyla, wearing a bodycon Balmain dress, experienced a few outfit alterations. Once she entered the event, the designer of the dress cut off the bottom part of her dress. Overall, this year’s newcomers caused quite a stir.
The co-hosts/co-chairs of the Met Gala were Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny. With this job, they had the potential to help pick the guest list, decide on the menu and assist with a few other aspects of the event.
Altogether, the Met Gala hosted over 100 celebrities, each wearing an outfit that incorporates “The Garden of Time”. With many new and returning stars attending, it seems that Anna Wintour arranged another smashing success. However, social media has blown up with calls for a ‘mass blocking’ of celebrities. Many have compared the Met Gala to the “Hunger Games.” The outcome of this event is uncertain as of now.
