Halloween is a great time for teens to dress up as anything they want without being judged. Students around BHS are choosing costumes that range from simpler and mainstream to unique and something that isn’t usually seen in pop culture. Creativity is in students’ hands when it comes to creating a Halloween costume.
Some of the most popular Halloween costumes over the years have been movie characters like Spiderman, horror movie characters, Disney princesses, and fairies. Many students either make their own costumes at home or go out to shops like Party City and Spirit Halloween where they can find supplies or premade costumes there.
Some students prefer to go the simpler route when it comes to costumes. “I’m going to do Donnie Darko, because I love the movie,” said sophomore Harley Spidell. Spidell is choosing a simpler route when picking out their costume, rather than taking a long time to plan something bigger. Spidell is choosing to use their own things at home rather than going all out and buying a premade costume.
Many people are choosing costumes that aren’t as popular. “I was reading a book with my sister, and I decided that I was going to be Fancy Nancy, because she’s funky,” said sophomore Adelyn Szymczak. She is choosing a movie character that isn’t very well-known, so this costume isn’t seen as much on Halloween. “I have lots of funky colors and patterns, and it’s definitely something that I think most people wouldn’t think of,” said Szymczak. Szymczak plans on going all out for her costume this year. She wants to make it different and more unique than previous years.
Whether students choose to go small or go all out for their Halloween costumes this year, their ideas are all sparked from their own inspiration. Students can use Halloween night as a time to be whoever or whatever they want.
