Anyone can get their nails done. Whether long or short, colorful or bland, with gems or with glitter. People post their nails on social media for everyone to see, to get the “oohs and ahs” in the comments. To stalk the likes on their post to see how many people like their new set of nails. Everybody knows what goes down when you’re getting your nails done, but nobody asks about what it’s like to be the one doing the nails.
For freshman Callie Thompson, all her friends ask about what it’s like to be the nail tech of our high school.
Her inspiration for doing nails came from social media. “I just saw a lot of people on TikTok doing their own nails and wanted to do my own,” said Thompson.
Doing people’s nails brings Thompson joy: “It’s fun to do different designs, and it’s just cool to see what I can do,” said Thompson.
Thompson’s clients also like to get their nails done by her just as much as she likes to do them. Not only does she do intricate designs and can make the client’s thought a reality, but Thompson also includes a lot of extra services like movies, music and snacks while getting your nails done, which, according to freshman Za’kyia Alexander, makes getting your nails done by Thompson an amazing experience.
“When you’re getting your nails done, it’s really a great experience because she will ask you what movie you wanna watch, and if you don’t want to watch a movie, she’ll play music,” said Alexander. “She has a nice little set up, and she’ll just make sure your nails are right and that they’re exactly what you want.”
Students wanting to make an appointment with her can message her @nailsbycalliec on Instagram or ask in person.
