Hitting, pitching and swinging.
A lot of the varsity players are seniors this year. The team practices every day, and once the season starts, it’s go time.
“The nice thing [about] baseball is we play a lot of games very quickly, and so we usually play about four games a week,” varsity baseball coach and social studies teacher J B McCallum said.
Many of the senior players have had experience playing other varsity sports as well.
The players use said experiences to help them when playing baseball. McCallum believes senior Cade Elkins will have a “pretty good year” with being a catcher. They are expecting “a lot out of him.”
“We have a lot of seniors, and a lot of seniors that have been on varsity since they were sophomores, so they have a lot of experience, and they’re great leaders,” McCallum said.
With a lot of the seniors being on the team for a couple of years, the players know that their biggest rival game is against Avon.
Senior Easton Spence has been playing baseball since he was a young child. He shared that his dad has been the person who has been by his side forever. He thinks having two coaches who are very supportive helps him play better.
“It came down to the last pitch with bases loaded, and then we struck out a kid from Avon to win,” Spence said. “That was definitely my best moment to be there with the seniors that year.”
