The Blend are learning the choreography for the song “Sparklejollytwinklelingley” for the Holiday Concert in December.

It is that time of year again: the Holiday Concert is coming to our school. Our students and classmates have been working hard on singing and dancing, but preparing for a concert has challenges and enjoyable times.

At BHS we have nine of choirs: The Bel Canto, Bella Voce, The Blend, Choralaires, Dog Pound, Madrigals, Spotlight Singers & Co., Starlight Voices and Vivace.

Students spend plenty of hours after school practicing for this and other concerts, and students have lives outside of school and choir. I know they [students] have a lot on their plate, especially at the end of a semester. One of our biggest challenges, but a goal, is to create a positive atmosphere so they can enjoy their time each day in the choirs,” Chad Strasser, the Spotlight Singers & Co., Starlight Voices, Bella Voce, The Dog Pound and 7th Period Choralaires director, said.

The choir is always doing something new. They just finished a play last month, and now they are on to the next show. “With nine choirs and the number of students in each, it is difficult to plan how everyone moves and changes costumes. It’s just a lot of pre-planning for the directors with transitions, traffic patterns,Melissa Stainbrook, the Bel Canto, Choralaires, Madrigals, and The Blend director, shared.

Students in the choir have dedication, patience for dancing, and balance between choir and school. I’m excited for the concert because we have worked really hard preparing, junior Lizzy Mgboh said.

Being in choir can bring out something in someone that they did not even know about themselves. Some students learn to be a part of something that is important to them, gain confidence singing in front of a crowd and get the opportunity to perform in costumes and learn choreography. Just know that choir and dancing are not as easy as it seems.

There are two shows for the holiday concert tonight, Friday, December 8. The first one is a 6:15 p.m. This show will feature the Bel Canto, Bella Voce, The Blend, seventh period Choralaires, Dog Pound, Madrigals, Starlight Voices, and Vivace. The second show is at 8 p.m. which will include the Bel Canto, Bella Voce, The Blend, first period Choralaires, Madrigals, Starlight Voices and Vivace. Each ticket for the shows will cost $7.00. So come out and see your classmates and students on this wonderful winter evening!
