Imagine being in a large crowd yelling out for the team you dearly want to win. You are right next to your friends. And when a singular man walks in by the cheerleaders, the whole crowd goes wild. This man is AC. He works for WISH-TV where he covers high schools that show the most spirit for their football teams. Each week on Friday night, AC announced the top student sections for the week. But as the season goes on, he cuts to the top 8, then top 4, then top 2. He shows up to any school that has a hype crowd and a school that has a lot of pride, and every year, one student section is named the winner.
This year, the banner went to Brownsburg High School.
Brownsburg also won the banner in 2018. With winning the banner, Brownsburg had to show that they put in the most effort, and one way they did that was by having a tailgate with a line of jeeps saying that they want the banner, along with cut–out faces of AC.
BHS senior Treasure Adewara said, “Winning the banner just goes to show how much effort our student section puts into supporting the football team.”
Most of the students went to the games dressed up for the spirit day, knowing that they needed to show the most spirit to show that they wanted to win the banner. Winning the banner doesn’t just mean putting up the banner in the gym, but it shows how the community comes together. From posting on Instagram for the students, to using Facebook to get the attention of adults, using social media platforms can help promote a school to get the banner.
“I feel like the community is such a big thing, and the student section is one of the ways we show the community here,” senior David Denoyer said.
