There is a new trend at BHS going around: Puppies & Yoga. Many students have been attending these 75-minute yoga classes. The first 45 minutes of the class, the yoga instructor comes in and teaches beginner yoga to a small group of people, while the puppies will wander around the room and play. The last 30 minutes of class is called “puppy play time” which is just time to play with puppies, snuggle with them and just have a good time!
Although this may be a fun opportunity for everybody, there are some factors that need to be noted before signing up. To participate in one of these yoga sessions, it costs $64 per person for the 75-minute time block. This can be a bit pricey, especially for teens, but it is also an opportunity to do something that is away from social media.
Another thing to be aware of is that every weekend, there are different breeds of puppies, and the breed is not released to people participating until three days before the class. This could be frustrating if there is a specific breed a person wants to do yoga with, but there is a reason for the secrecy. The company gets these puppies from different breeders, and the company doesn’t find out what breed of puppies they will get until a few days before the first class of the weekend.
Something to be aware of is that these puppies are 8-10 weeks old. 10 weeks old is the oldest puppies they get, so these puppies are not usually potty trained, and they may pee or poo on your yoga mat or even on you! The company provides yoga mats for everyone participating so the attendees don’t need to bring their own. However, it is recommended to bring a mini towel for the puppies if they decide to use the restroom on the participants instead of the mat.
The number of puppies in the yoga room depends on the weekend, particularly how many people attend. For example, if there are eight groups of people, then there will be eight puppies or maybe more. Usually there is only one breed per weekend, but sometimes there will be multiple breeds. For example, on the first weekend of March, they had six Corgi and two Dachshund puppies.

There are many locations of Puppies & Yoga around the United States, but the one that students from BHS are going to is the Indianapolis location: 800 N Delaware St, Indianapolis IN 46204. It is in the Stutz building.
Puppies & Yoga is open on Saturdays and Sundays with time slots of 9:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. These time slots do not change.
Many times, breeders bring their puppies to Puppies & Yoga because these puppies have no home. If anybody is looking to adopt one, the company Puppies & Yoga will give them the breeder’s contact information and will let them know if the puppy the person is looking to adopt has a home or not.
These puppies are generally well-behaved. They are not potty trained, so they often have accidents, but besides that, they are friendly puppies. When talking to a worker at Puppies & Yoga, she believes that the worst-behaved puppies to come were half-Husky and half-German Shepard because some were overly friendly and others were overly shy. When it comes to the best-behaved, there are multiple but for employees, they agree that Golder Retrievers were people’s favorite breed and the most well-behaved.
All in all, many people enjoyed this experience, and workers say people usually come back again. These puppies are very friendly and loving, giving everyone an all around good time.
