Sophomore Patrick McCluskey is a Lions fan who had to watch his favorite team be half a game away from playing in the Super Bowl. However, he will still be enjoying the Super Bowl even if his team is not in the game as his family hosts a watch party with friends.
The Super Bowl is the most viewed sporting event in the world, racking in more than 115 million viewers in last year’s Super Bowl (Super Bowl LVII). In this year’s Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers.
In the NFC Championship game where the 49ers played the Detroit Lions, the Lions ended up taking an early 24-7 lead over the 49ers making many Lions fans “excited about my team finally making the Super Bowl” McCluskey said. However, in the second half, the 49ers stormed with 27 unanswered points to lead them to a 34-31 victory.
As for the Chiefs, they look to repeat after their Super Bowl win last year. However, the Chiefs have had problems of their own, particularly at the wide receiver position as they amassed 44 drops in their 17 games with an eight percent drop rate which is the highest drop rate by far for any team over the last decade according reports by ESPN.
However, the 49ers are the favorites to hoist the Lombardi trophy which is the trophy given out to the winner of the Super Bowl as according to ESPN statistics they have a 59.4 percent chance to win.
