As the finish line gets closer into view, your legs move faster, passing people to cross the finish line first, the crowd erupting in cheers for the winner.

Junior Elena Magnusson does cross country, track and the Brownsburg Symphony Orchestra. With multiple activities taking up time across the year, managing schoolwork can be a big issue.
“I feel like I have more discipline when I go to practice and then do my homework,” Magnusson said.
When not doing after–school activities, Magnusson goes to the library to study for any tests that may be coming up. She is also in some AP and Dual Credit classes.
“She has pretty good time management. She manages hard classes with two sports,” junior Sophia Haboush said.
Cross country season is in the fall while track is in the spring. The amount of time running per week can vary depending on whether it’s before the season starts or during the season. The goal is to be one of the first people to cross the finish line, which requires runners to get faster every time they’re on the course.
“We usually do a 30 to 40 miles per week, and then, as we hit like the middle of race season, we go up to like 45 miles a week,” Magnusson said.
When cross country and track practices aren’t going on, Magnusson is at orchestra playing her cello.

The Brownsburg Symphony Orchestra is for sophomores to seniors and has weekly practices to get ready to compete against other schools.
“It’s a great way to get good scholarships, because a lot of schools look for musical stuff,” Magnusson said.
After she graduates, she wants to run at BYU for cross country and track while studying experience design which is the act of designing products, services or environments focusing on the quality of the user’s experience.
“I want to run for BYU, and they keep getting better every single day, so it’s getting kind of hard, but I do have the goal to go run for the team,” Magnusson said.
